We got back last night from a week at the beach.  It was great to get away.

In the mornings I got up early and skated along the bike path along the beach.  That gave me a lot of time to think about my trading and the areas I need to improve.  I think time away for reflection is more productive than just continuing trading because we can take a step back and think outside the box.

I came up with a lot of ideas during our trip and now I need to go through them and see what I can put to use.

  1. Hey Michael,

    Nice image – welcome back!

It’s so important to step back and recharge from time to time. I am sure your trading will benefit from your new ideas.

    All the best,

    Benko

  2. hi, been following you for some time now. I can relate to your journey. Can i have your thoughts on volume trading like 30-50 trades a day for just 1, 2 ticks mainly? with wide stop of 8-12 ticks?. The reason i ask is because through backtesting (i know your not a fan) then actual trading i am getting the most consistent results i have had in 9 years of trying to become a trader, luck or do i actually have something?…..reading boards say you cannot make money with wide stop and small target but then 99% make no money so maybe. low comms is key but win rate is high so mentally it is better for me, ok one hit wipes out a days work but gives plenty of trades per day to make back or small loss, and 100% or near 100% days is where the edge kicks in. Plenty of losing days but not many losing weeks and no losing months.

  3. Jason – Logic tells me a mechanical 1-2 tick scalping strategy isn’t possible because if it were there would be bots doing it with thousands of contracts and that would ruin it. However, if you’re able to do it with real money and it’s profitable, when taking into account commissions, then I’d keep on doing it and not worry about what others say.

If you’re on sim because careful of unrealistic fills and slippage.

I’m a fan of whatever works, just make sure it really works.
